Waterproofing

Waterproofing is the process of making an object or structure waterproof or water-resistant so that it remains relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified conditions. “Water resistant” and “waterproof” often refer to penetration of water in its liquid state and possibly under pressure, whereas damp proof refers to resistance to humidity or dampness. Permeation of water vapour through a material or structure is reported as a water vapour transmission rate.

In India, waterproofing is often done with conventional systems like brick or conventional tile laying, lime or mud-fuska. These methods are not long-lasting and it just provides slope to the terrace to drain away the water. Over the time, these systems do not provide waterproofing and crack develops over it, leading to leakages through terrace and dampness on ceiling or wall.
